They have been preparing for months. People of all ages have been working at the popular In the Heart of the Beast Puppet Theatre to make all the fabulous masks, figures, and giant puppets that participated in the parade. The theatre’s workshops have been instrumental in developing a strong sense of community: Anybody can come in and help out with the construction of the figures. Later, they can walk the parade with their creations. This past week I was asked to photograph the workshops and the parade for the theatre. At first, I must admit, I was a little overwhelmed by the chaos:

Walking around the theatre, I was inspired by the loads of fun everyone was having. It all starts with paper!

I loved seeing the projects turn into show stoppers st the parade:

Thank you, Roee
Ever since I left Minneapolis 10 years ago, I have been unable to witness a MayDay in person.
It is only through eyes of folks like you am I able to experience it vicariously.
It’s great to see the faces and works of the people I love there.
You have captured the spirit of the event beautifully. Matt Weathers
thanks Matt!
